The socket is part of the enclosure, not part of the disk. It is soldered to a small bridge board that translates USB for the drive behind it. Break the socket and the translator is unreachable, but nothing has happened to the disk or to what is on it.
Trying a new cable is worth doing once. Cables fail more often than sockets and it costs nothing to eliminate. When it makes no difference, the fault is at the drive's end and further cables will not change that.
There are two routes and one is better for the customer. Either the socket is resoldered, which is electronic work and carries the upfront terms, or the disk is lifted out and read directly, which is a straight read. Where the disk is going to come out anyway to be imaged properly, taking it out is the cheaper and safer answer.
That choice changes the terms, and it should be explained. Reading the disk directly involved no soldering, no clean air and no board repair, so it ran on no fix, no fee. Had the socket needed rebuilding to get anywhere, half the quote would have been payable upfront, because soldering is electronic work.

Try one other cable, and if that changes nothing, stop. Do not hold the cable at an angle to get a connection, because an intermittent connection during a read is worse than no connection at all and can leave the filesystem in a mess that then needs its own work. Do not open the enclosure yourself to get at the drive: the disk inside is fine and the way to keep it that way is to leave it alone. Post the whole unit as it is, including the power supply if it has one, and say what happened to the socket.
