A wedding videographer working out of Heswall watched the light on a 4TB Seagate go out mid transfer, and the drive disappear off the desktop with it. Another firm had already looked and said one of the heads was broken. A light going out mid transfer is the drive shutting itself down. It hit something it could not read, retried, failed and cut power to protect itself. That is a controlled stop rather than a component dying.
The earlier diagnosis was correct. One head in a stack failing is common and the symptoms match it. Confirming somebody else's finding is a perfectly good outcome for a second opinion, and it happens more often than not.
Unlikely was the part worth challenging. A broken head over sound platters is routine. A broken head over scored platters is not. Nobody can tell you which you have without opening the drive in clean air and looking, and the word unlikely had been used before anybody looked.
Multiple heads means partial reads are possible. A 4TB drive has several heads, each reading its own surface. If one fails, the others can usually still read theirs, so even a difficult job on this class of drive is rarely all or nothing.

Ask what the platters look like. That is the question that decides everything, and it can only be answered by opening the drive in clean air and inspecting the surfaces under magnification. A broken head is a component failure and components are replaceable. Scored platters are a genuine limit. If nobody has looked, an unlikely is a guess, and a guess should not be the reason you give up on a year's work. Do not power the drive up in the meantime. A drive with a failed head is precisely the one that damages its own surfaces if it is asked to try again.
